Wheelhouse lifting shafts are used to raise or lower the ship’s wheelhouse for bridge passages. A lifting shaft consists of telescoping tubes that are moved by means of a hydraulic cylinder. Depending on the available space between the ship’s hull and deck, larger or smaller lifting heights can be achieved.

BÜTER Hebetechnik GmbH has designed and patented a round lifting shaft. This unique round design offers several advantages over the usual angular shape: greater rigidity with low dead weight, shorter production lead times, fewer components, and an optimal shape for effective corrosion protection.

The wheelhouse lifting shafts are used in inland and coastal shipping. Since the lifting shaft extends into the ship’s hull, it is preferably installed on vessels designed for container transport.
